Josef Spies

Josef Spies (born June 23, 1906 in Oberwiesenbach ; † March 14, 1985 in Augsburg ) was a German politician ( CSU ).

Life and work

After attending primary school and an advanced training school, Spies completed an apprenticeship as a bookbinder, which he completed with a journeyman's examination. He then took commercial courses in private training and worked from 1928 to 1939 as an accountant and commercial administrator. He took part in World War II as a soldier from 1939 to 1945 and was taken prisoner in the United States, from which he was released as a severely disabled person.

Political party

Spies joined the CSU in 1946 and was elected deputy chairman of the CSU district association Kaufbeuren in 1961.

MP

Spies had been a member of the Kaufbeuren district council since 1946 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1965. He represented the constituency of Kaufbeuren , for which he was always directly elected. From October 1963 to 1965 he was Deputy Chairman of the Petitions Committee of the Bundestag. From August 4, 1969, when he replaced the fatally injured deputy Konstantin Prinz von Bayern , until the end of the legislative period in autumn that year, he was once again a brief member of the Bundestag.

Public offices

Spies was mayor of the municipality of Emmenhausen from 1945 to 1951 . From 1948 to 1951 he was deputy district administrator for the Kaufbeuren district.
