Constantine Prince of Bavaria

Konstantin Prinz von Bayern (born August 15, 1920 in Munich ; † July 30, 1969 in Hechingen ) was a member of the German Bundestag for one electoral period from October 19, 1965 until his death . He was elected for the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) through a direct mandate from the then constituency 204 Munich-Mitte in Bavaria .

Life

His parents were Adalbert Prince of Bavaria (1886–1970) and Auguste von Seefried auf Buttenheim (1899–1978), daughter of Count Otto von Seefried auf Buttenheim (1870–1951) and Princess Elisabeth Marie of Bavaria (1874–1957).

In 1939 he was called up for military service, but a year later he was released from the Wehrmacht due to the prince's decree . From 1942-44 he studied law in Freiburg im Breisgau and then worked at the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court . In 1947 he began a journalistic career, during the course of which he worked for the Neue Revue , the Süddeutsche Zeitung and, from 1963, for the Bunter . He owned shares in the banking house Louis Hagen & Sohn . He wrote the books The Pope , a biography of Pius XII. , and without power and glory . Member of the CSU since 1961 , he entered the Bavarian State Parliament in 1962 and the Bundestag in 1965 . Shortly after the publication of his political work Secure the Future , Konstantin von Bayern was killed in a plane crash near Hechingen .

He is buried in the Wittelsbach family cemetery in Andechs Monastery , where his coffin was transferred in 1977 from the princely crypt of St. Michael (Munich) .

Konstantin Prinz von Bayern married Maria Adelgunde Princess von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (1921-2006), daughter of Friedrich Viktor von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (1891-1965) , in 1942 . The following children came from this marriage:
