Josef Voss
Josef Voß (born March 9, 1937 in Benteler ; † December 16, 2009 in Münster , Westphalia ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster .
Life
Josef Voss studied in Rome from 1958 to 1968 , where he obtained a licentiate in philosophy . On 10 October 1964 he received in the Roman church of St. Ignatius of Loyola in Campo Marzio the priesthood by Cardinal Julius Döpfner . After doctoral studies he was in Catholic theology for Doctor of theology doctorate .
Joseph Cardinal Höffner appointed him chaplain in the parish of St. Marien in Steinfurt in 1968 . In July 1970 he became sub-director, in December director at the Collegium Borromaeum in Münster and three years later cathedral vicar at the Hohen Domkirche in Münster . In 1973 he was first spiritual director, from 1974 chairman of the Caritas Association for the diocese of Münster. On June 7, 1979, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ). From 1981 to 2001 Josef Voß was chairman of the Catholic Hospital Association Germany (KKVD).
Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Thisiduo and auxiliary bishop in Münster in 1988 . He was ordained bishop by the bishop of Munster, Reinhard Lettmann ; Co- consecrators were Marijan Oblak , Archbishop of Zadar, and Hermann Josef Spital , Bishop of Trier. His motto was Deus caritas est (“God is love”). Auxiliary Bishop Voss was regional bishop for the Coesfeld / Recklinghausen region . Since 1990 he has been resident cathedral capitular at the Hohen Domkirche in Münster.
From 1995 until his death, he headed the foreign ministry department in the pastoral care department of the Episcopal Vicariate General in Münster. In the German Bishops' Conference he was chairman of Commission XIII (Caritas) from 1992 to 1996. Since 1997 he has headed Commission XIV (Migration). 2006 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed to the “Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care for Migrants and People on the Move”. In 2008 he was honored with the Golden Carousel Horse for his services to the folk festival and the showman trade in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Josef Voss died on December 16, 2009 in the Raphaelsklinik in Münster from the consequences of a long illness . On December 22nd he was buried in the canon cemetery of the Münster cathedral.
