Josef Zimmermann (Vicar General)

Josef Zimmermann (born March 7, 1939 in Visperterminen ; † January 5, 2018 in Sion ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic clergyman .

Life

Josef Zimmermann, son of Julius and Augusta geb. Zimmermann, after graduating from the college Spiritus Sanctus Brig in Brig-Glis , the only German-speaking grammar school in the canton of Valais , studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Sion (1962–1967). On June 18, 1967, he was ordained a priest in Sion . From 1967 to 1979 he was the rector of Naters . In 1979 he took over the parish in Saas-Grund , and from 1988 also the parishes in Saas-Balen and Saas-Almagell . At the same time, from 1983 to 1986 he was vice regen of the seminary of the diocese of Sion in Freiburg im Üechtland and from 1987 to 1989 dean of the Visp dean 's office. From 1990 to 1992 he was pastor of Naters, also in offices of the diocese leadership.

In 1991 Josef Zimmermann was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Upper Valais . In 1992 he became canon of the cathedral of Sion , in particular as a manufacturer (church bailiff) responsible for the maintenance of the cathedral and the other churches and chapels as well as the liturgical items that are in the possession of the cathedral chapter . From 1995 to 2010 he was vicar general for the German-speaking part of the bilingual diocese of Sion . He then worked as an auxiliary in the parishes of Naters and Mund until his retirement .
