Joseph-Delphis Desrosiers

Joseph Delphis Desrosiers OMI (born February 23, 1906 in Embrun , Canada , † September 22, 1989 ; according to other information Joseph Delphis Des Rosiers ) was a bishop of the diocese of Maseru and the diocese of Qacha's Nek .

Life

Desrosiers was ordained a priest in 1930, and in 1932 he came to Basutoland , where he took over the management of the Mazenod Institute in 1942 . In 1948 he was appointed titular bishop of Pachnemunis and episcopal vicar of the Maseru diocese. On January 11, 1951, he was appointed bishop of Maseru in what was then Basutoland .

He received his episcopal ordination from Bishop Joseph Gotthardt OMI; Co- consecrators were Herman Joseph Meysing OMI, Archbishop of Bloemfontein , and Johannes Baptist Lück SCI , Bishop of Aliwal . In 1961 he moved to the newly created diocese of Qacha's Nek, where he retired in 1981. Des Rosiers died in 1989.

During his tenure in Maseru, he expanded Catholic schools and promoted the training of local clergy. He was one of the Catholic officials who, together with the Basotho National Party, fought the Pan-African Basutoland African Congress . Among other things, Desrosiers wrote numerous articles in the church paper Moeletsi , in which he warned against the "communism" of the BAC.
