Joseph Anton Hofer

Joseph Anton Hofer (born May 19, 1742 in Kastelruth , † June 15, 1820 in Brixen ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic theologian and clergyman .

Life

Hofer attended the grammar schools in Brixen and Innsbruck . He then went to the University of Innsbruck . There he studied theology, philosophy and both rights and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . In 1765 he was ordained a priest . He then embarked on a career as a teacher. In 1771 he became professor of rhetoric and prefect at the grammar school and seminary in Brixen . He also received a canon position . In 1776 he was appointed professor of canon law and a real consistorial councilor, and in 1779 he was also canon at the Frauenkirche on the cloister .

Under Emperor Joseph II, Hofer was appointed to Innsbruck in 1782 as kk gubernialrat and clerk in spiritual matters . In 1786 he returned to his old offices in Brixen. In 1807 he was as fürstbischöflicher cleric council in the retirement staggered.
