Joseph Berres , Edler von Perez from 1842 (born March 18, 1796 in Göding , † December 24, 1844 in Vienna ), was an Austrian doctor and anatomist .

Born the son of a surgeon. He began his career as a bathing assistant and then studied surgery in Vienna. At the age of 21 he was already professor of anatomy in Lviv without having completed a regular course of study . In 1830 he was appointed to the University of Vienna . His scientific work gave him a European reputation. It gained particular importance through the introduction of the microscope into anatomical research. He was also concerned with the further development of the daguerreotype . So he invented a process to reproduce daguerreotypes by printing. In 1834 the University of Vienna awarded him the title of Dr. hc 1842 he was ennobled as a nobleman by Perez . In 1844 he died of a heart condition. His final resting place is in Weyer in a chapel in the Am Kreuzberg district.

His son Josef Berres went through a military career and retired as major general in 1867 . He then began studying painting with Karl Theodor von Piloty in Munich and became a well-known genre painter.
