Joseph Fred Naumann
Joseph Fred Naumann (born June 4, 1949 in St. Louis , USA ) is Archbishop of Kansas City .
Life
Joseph Fred Naumann received on 24 May 1975 by the Archbishop of Saint Louis , John Cardinal Carberry , the sacrament of Holy Orders .
On 9 July 1997 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Caput Cilla and auxiliary bishop in Saint Louis. The Archbishop of Saint Louis, Justin Francis Rigali , ordained him episcopal on September 3 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the auxiliary bishop of Saint Louis, Edward Kenneth Braxton , and the bishop of Lafayette , Edward Joseph O'Donnell . On January 7, 2004, John Paul II named him Coadjutor Archbishop of Kansas City. The inauguration took place on March 19 of the same year. Joseph Fred Naumann became Archbishop of Kansas City on January 15, 2005, succeeding James Patrick Keleher , who resigned due to illness .
Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Kansas City-Saint Joseph Diocese on April 21 .
Naumann has been a member of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem since 1996 , its Grand Officer and, since 2008, Grand Prior of the American Lieutenancy of the Northern Lieutenancy of the Order.
In a popular vote at the autumn plenary session of the United States' Bishops' Conference (USCCB) in Baltimore in 2017 , Naumann succeeded in asserting himself against Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich in the election as chairman of the Bishops' Life Protection Committee . The election was seen as a directional decision against Pope Francis , who, like Cupich, stands for a holistic orientation of the church's life protection policy and wants to break through constrictions. Naumann, on the other hand, wants to concentrate his work on the subject of abortion , which for him, as for the majority of US bishops, has a priority over other subjects such as health , immigration or poverty .
