Johann Heinrich Joseph Hoeren (born May 17, 1825 in Dahlen ; † April 5, 1907 in Berlin ) was a German politician .

Live and act

Joseph Hoeren was the son of a weaver. He trained as a teacher, also for deaf and dumb students. After working for several years, he switched to an administrative career.

At the district office of Mönchengladbach he completed a preparatory period and on May 16, 1863 became mayor of the St. Hubert mayor in the Kempen district, established in 1816 . On January 1, 1874, he was appointed the first mayor of the Stoppenberg mayor , which emerged from the division of the Altenessen mayor . Both are now parts of the city of Essen . The municipalities of Frillendorf , Huttrop , Katernberg , Kray , Leithe , Rotthausen , Schonnebeck and Rüttenscheid belonged to the mayor's office in Stoppenberg . The inauguration took place on January 5, 1874.

Joseph Hoeren made a name for himself during the miners 'strike in 1889 by openly acknowledging the miners' demands and doing the same. Since he was responsible for the police, he only wanted to take action against the strikers if they had misappropriated property or people. However, the strikers remained peaceful. When the mine management of the Zeche Zollverein gave them notice of their apartments, Hoeren declined to help the police with the evacuation. The mine management then complained to the Essen District Administrator about the mayor, which resulted in disciplinary proceedings. On February 1, 1891, Joseph Hoeren resigned and retired despite an impressive and positive statement by the Stoppenberg mayor's council.

He was buried in the Ostfriedhof in Essen .

Between the Essen districts of Stoppenberg and Katernberg, the former Bruchweiher street was renamed Joseph-Hoeren-Straße after him on September 22, 1971.
