Act

Joseph Jahnel was considered an important representative of the Roman Catholic Church of the 19th century, especially in Berlin. During the time of the industrial revolution , the German capital grew rapidly due to immigration from Catholic Silesia and living conditions were tough. The Diocese of Berlin was only founded in 1930 and the Berlin Catholics were looked after as part of the Diocese of Breslau until then . Jahnel earned services to the development of the church. He lived his socio-political engagement among other things in the Vinzenzverein zu Berlin. The number of Catholic associations also increased thanks to his commitment. He was considered a benefactor, as he intended the majority of his income for charitable purposes, especially schools.

Jahnel had 22 churches built between 1888 and 1897, including seven in Berlin, and was known as a “church builder”.
