Joseph "Joe" James (born May 23, 1925 in Saucier , Mississippi , † November 5, 1952 in San José , California ) was an American racing driver .

Career

James started in 24 races for the AAA National Series between 1950 and 1952. He achieved his best result in 1951 at the Centennial Park Circuit in Denver as fourth.

The 500-mile Indianapolis he was run two races. After he could not qualify in 1950 , he retired in 1951 on a Watson - Offenhauser in the eighth round with a damage to the drive shaft. In 1952 , this time on a Kurtis Kraft 4000-Offenhauser, he reached 13th place in the same lap as the winner Troy Ruttman .

James had a fatal accident in November 1952 at the AAA National Series race in San José .
