Josef Vital Kopp
Josef Vital Kopp (born November 1, 1906 in Beromünster / Canton of Lucerne ; † September 22, 1966 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss Catholic theologian , teacher and writer .
Life
Josef Vital Kopp was the son of a mayor . He studied theology at the University of Innsbruck and received his doctorate in 1929 there to the doctor of theology. After attending a seminary in Solothurn , he was ordained a priest in 1931 and then worked as a youth pastor in Lucerne . In 1935 he took up a second course and studied classical philology at the universities in Friborg , Berlin and Heidelberg until 1938 . In 1939 he received his second doctorate. Since 1938 he was a teacher and then also rector at the cantonal middle school Willisau (Progymnasium); from 1945 to 1962 he taught religion and classical languages at the Cantonal School in Lucerne. The last years of his life were overshadowed by a leukemia disease.
In addition to his teaching activities , Josef Vital Kopp wrote novels , stories , essays and aphorisms . In his narrative works, he initially deals with ancient history and culture; his last, posthumously published novel Der Forstmeister is a coded criticism of the immobility of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church .
Josef Vital Kopp received a prize from the Swiss Schiller Foundation in 1947 and 1951 and the Central Switzerland Literature Prize in 1962 .
