family

Joseph Aloys Felix von Fürth came from an Aachen patrician dynasty , which provided several lay judges and the Aachen mayors Johann Wilhelm von Fürth and Franz von Fürth , the latter being raised to the imperial baron status in 1773 under the title " Freiherr von Brewer called von Fürth " . The eldest son of the aforementioned Franz von Fürth was the Elector Palatine Colonel Johann Caspar Josef Jakob Freiherr von Brewer called von Fürth (1728–1849), who with Bernhardine von Pelser-Berensberg (1743–1800), daughter of the Aachen lay judge Johann Friedrich von Pelser -Berensberg (1702–1771), was married. From this marriage, the brothers Joseph Aloys Felix and the district judge Bernhard Crysant von Fürth (1782–1849) emerged, the latter himself being the father of the lawyers Hermann Ariovist von Fürth and August von Fürth .

Live and act

Joseph Aloys Felix von Fürth initially worked in the Aachen cloth factory "Heusch & Fürth" and soon became a domicellar at the Aachen Marienstift . After the French invaded Aachen in 1794, von Fürth held various positions for the new rulers. He was promoted to commandant of the imperial honor guard in Aachen and made a contribution to it, for which he was awarded 100 Louis d'or and a brilliant needle in 1804 by the Empress and Napoleon's wife , Joséphine de Beauharnais . In 1806 Fürth was appointed "membre honoraire à vie" (honorary member for life) of the Maastricht lodge attached to the Grand Orient of France . In addition, von Fürth belonged to the Aachener Johannisloge , as its master he was elected from 1806 to 1808 and from 1813 to 1815.

For his services in the French civil administration and as "membre de la chambre commerce" (member of the Chamber of Commerce) he was promoted to the Prefectural Council as the successor to the retired Johann Friedrich Jacobi and accepted into the Legion of Honor . In 1811, together with the Aachen Maire Cornelius von Guaita, he was a member of the delegation that attended the baptism of the heir to the throne and designated King of Rome Napoleon Franz Bonaparte in Rome . After von Fürth was mentioned again two years later as commander of the imperial guard of honor in the Journal de la Roer, No. 289, he must have obviously recognized the signs of the times and a few months later switched to the Prussian side, where he became royal Prussian Lieutenant Colonel led a Prussian Landwehr battalion against Napoleon's troops at the Battle of Waterloo .

After the French had withdrawn and the Kingdom of Prussia took over the government , von Fürth first joined the Aachener Casino Club in 1814 and was appointed as the first district administrator in the newly founded Geilenkirchen district and promoted to the secret government council in 1815 . He then served as district administrator until his death in 1844.
