Life

Career

Belcher came in 2009 in the NFL Draft , but was not signed by any team and remained undrafted. The Kansas City Chiefs signed Jovan Belcher as a free agent after the draft . Despite his small size, Belcher prevailed in his position and soon counted as a starter. Also in the following seasons he was in the regular formation and played all games. In addition, he was involved in social projects, gave motivational speeches for students and visited a military base and various elementary schools as part of an NFL children's program.

In March 2012, Belcher's contract was extended for another year, at a level of about 2 million US dollars . Until his death, he played all the games of the 2012 season , but the Chiefs had a negative season record with ten defeats and only one win.

death

Belcher lived with his girlfriend Cassandra Perkins and their child in Kansas City until his death . Friends of the couple reported that quarrels were becoming more and more frequent, including on the evening of November 30th, when Perkins did not come home until around one o'clock after a concert. Belcher met another woman that same night. Belcher came home around seven in the morning, and in an argument that followed, he shot his girlfriend.

After the murder, Belcher drove straight to the Kansas City Chiefs training ground. In the parking lot in front of the property he got out of the car and put his pistol to his head. The general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, Scott Pioli , happened to be there trying to persuade him to drop the gun. Belcher told him about the murder and asked Pioli to take care of his daughter. Head coach Romeo Crennel and defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs also joined later, but their attempts to convince Belcher were unsuccessful. When the police arrived on site around eight o'clock, Jovan Belcher fled behind a nearby car and shot himself in the head.
