Ju Ji-hoon (born May 16, 1982 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actor .

Life

Ju Ji-hoon studied acting at Kyonggi University . He started his career in 2003 as a promotional model for various fashion brands. In 2006 he had his breakthrough as an actor in the romantic television series Goong , based on the Manhwa series of the same name . The role won an MBC Drama Award for Best New Actor , while Yoon Eun-hye , who played alongside him, received Best New Actress .

In 2008 Ju made his film debut in Antique , directed by Min Kyu-dong , based on the manga Antique Bakery . The film was invited to the Berlinale 2009 . Shortly thereafter, he starred alongside Shin Mina in the romantic comedy The Naked Kitchen (2009).

On April 27, 2009, Ju was arrested for drug use . On June 23, 2009, Ju admitted in court that she had used ecstasy and ketamine . He was sentenced to six months in prison, one year probation, 120 hours of community service, and a fine of 360,000 won . The judge said it wasn't a minor crime, but Ju had shown remorse. From February 2, 2010 to November 21, 2011, Ju did his military service . During this time he played the lead role with Lee Joon Gi from August 21 to 29, 2010 in the military musical Voyage of Life . This was created in memory of the Korean War that began 60 years earlier and was produced jointly by the Ministry of Defense and the Korea Musical Theater Association.

In August 2012, Ju returned to film in the comedy I Am the King , inspired by Mark Twain's novel The Prince and the Begging Boy . Ju played the roles of Crown Prince Chungnyeong and the slave Deok-chil in a fictional plot. This was followed by the television series Five Fingers (2012) and Medical Top Team (2013) as well as the love story Marriage Blue (2013). In 2014 he played the lead role in the Chinese film Xīn zhòu .

In 2015 Ju worked again with Min Kyu-dong for the historical film The Treacherous about King Yeonsangun . In 2016 he played one of the leading roles in the crime thriller Asura - The City of Madness . It was followed by a starring role in the fantasy - Blockbuster Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), based on the same webtoon . The film had over 14.4 million viewers and is the second highest-grossing film of all time in South Korea. The role of Haewonmaek made him very popular. The second part followed in 2018. In the same year he played in the North Korean thriller The Spy Gone North and the crime thriller A Dark Figure of Crime . His performance in both films received critical acclaim, and Ju has received several awards for Best Supporting Actor. For A Dark Figure of Crime , he received a nomination for Best Actor at the Blue Dragon Awards .

Ju also plays the leading role in the Netflix series Kingdom , in which Joseon is plagued by zombies . Before the first season was released, a second season was commissioned.
