Juan Carlos Maccarone

Juan Carlos Maccarone (born October 19, 1940 in Buenos Aires , † March 29, 2015 in Don Orione ) was an Argentine clergyman and bishop of Santiago del Estero .

Life

Maccarone studied Catholic theology and was ordained a priest on December 17, 1968 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on January 30, 1993 auxiliary bishop in Lomas de Zamora and titular bishop of Mauriana . The bishop of Lomas de Zamora, Desiderio Elso Collino , donated him episcopal ordination on April 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Héctor Gabino Romero , Bishop of Rafaela , and José María Arancedo , Bishop of Mar del Plata .

He was appointed Bishop of Chascomús on July 3, 1996, and was introduced to the office on September 24 of the same year. On February 18, 1999, he was appointed Bishop of Santiago del Estero, and on May 29 of the same year he was instituted.

According to various media reports, an Argentine newspaper reported in 2005 that it was offered a video showing Maccarone having sexual intercourse with a young man. Reports from the Los Angeles Times and the Catholic News Agency confirm the existence of such a video and link it to his resignation from the episcopate. According to dpa , the spokesman for the archbishopric in the capital Buenos Aires did not rule out the possibility that it could be a "politically motivated revenge". Maccarone campaigned vigorously for the poor in his province and fought against corruption . The newspaper said it got the information from an influential provincial businessman.

Maccarone resigned on August 19, 2005 without giving any reason. The resignation was made by Pope Benedict XVI. accepted. He then retired to Don Orione in the province of Buenos Aires . After a long illness, he died there in 2015 at the age of 74. The funeral of Maccarone took place on March 30th of the same year.
