José María Montes

José María Montes (born March 22, 1920 in Adrogué , Partido Almirante Brown , Argentina ; † September 2, 2011 in Temperley , Buenos Aires ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Chascomús .

Life

José María Montes, from a family with thirteen children, was an assistant at the court in Almirante Brown and worked for the company Bunge y Born SA. In 1949 he entered the San José seminary in La Plata. After his theological and philosophical studies, he received on December 20, 1958 in San Gabriel Arcangel in La Plata, the ordination by the auxiliary bishop in La Plata , Raúl Francisco Primatesta .

He was initially the private secretary of Raúl Francisco Primatesta, later a pastor in the Italian hospital in Buenos Aires and pastor of Nuestra Señora de la Victoria in La Plata. In 1965 he became vicar in Nuestra Señora del Valle and founded the colegio parroquial John F. Kennedy . He was also committed to the Catholic Action. In 1976 he became pastor of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores Santa Iglesia Catedral and rector and canon of the cathedral of La Plata , one of the largest churches in South America.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 15, 1978 titular bishop of Lamdia and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of La Plata. The Archbishop of La Plata, Antonio José Plaza , gave him episcopal ordination on August 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Octavio Nicolás Derisi , auxiliary bishop in La Plata, and Antonio Quarracino , bishop of Avellaneda . His motto was "Es necesario que El crezca y que yo disminuya"

He was appointed Bishop of Chascomús on January 19, 1983 by Pope John Paul II and was introduced to the office on March 8, 1983. On July 3, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

José María Montes died on September 2, 2011 in Temperley, Buenos Aires Province.
