Judith and Mel are a German singing duo specializing in popular hits .

history

Judith Jersey (real name Kristina Barbara Jupe; born July 17, 1952 in Oldenburg ) and Mel Jersey (real name: Eberhard Karl Alfons Jupe; born October 1, 1943 in Falkenau , Grottkau district (Upper Silesia)) have been married since November 30, 1969 have two daughters.

Mel Jersey appeared as a pop singer in the early 1970s. He had some hits like Lisa (always for you), Lady of Love, Ich sit 'between 2 chairs etc. and several appearances on radio and television and was in 1980 and 1982 in the German preliminary decision for the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson (today Eurovision Song Contest) as a singer, composer and lyricist. In addition, he wrote hits for other performers, including Roy Black , Lena Valaitis , Florian Silbereisen , Stefan Mross , Eberhard Hertel , Margitta & Töchter , Dennie Christian , Alpentrio Tirol , Andy Borg and Mara Kayser .

Judith & Mel started their musical collaboration in 1984 with the studio recording I lost myself in you tonight, with which they made their first television appearance in 1986 in the current showroom . From then on they called themselves the Heimatduo Judith & Mel, later just Judith & Mel . The first major television appearance through which they became known was at the Grand Prix of Folk Music in 1990 , where they achieved 5th place internationally with the song Land im Norden . In total, the two took part in the Grand Prix of Folk Music nine times and reached the international final each time. They rounded off this series with a 3rd place for the title The Golden Years 1999. As a composer, lyricist and producer, Mel Jersey took part in the Grand Prix of Folk Music twelve times in the last 20 years, because apart from Judith & Mel he was in the finals with the groups “Together”, “Margitta & Töchter” and “Jannika” with it. The last participation of Judith & Mel in 2009 was a failure: The two were with the song Love gives, love takes last.

Also in other competitions such as ARD-Schlagerparaden or Musikanten-Kaiser , the two often took first place and in the North German competition Songs as beautiful as the north in 1993 they were able to get 3rd place with Everything clear, everything clear .

For their services to the north and the city of Oldenburg, the two were awarded the "Great City Medal".
