Location of Jugelsburg in Saxony

Jugelsburg is a district of the city of Adorf / Vogtl. in the Saxon Vogtland district .

geography

Jugelsburg extends from the 450 m deep valley of the White Elster near the former perennial mill (today GEWA) to the 560 m high Vogelherd. The place name is probably from the gugel- , d. H. cap-shaped shape derived from the mountain on which the village extends. However, some authors suspect that the name refers to the Slavic Juel cult, as the area was inhabited by Slavs until the Middle Ages. The center of the village is formed by the grove of honor and the adjacent inn halfway up the mountain.

The town of Adorf, the Adorf district of Remtengrün and Bad Elster border on Jugelsburg .

Jugelsburg has only one district, Karlsgasse. Remtengrün is a spin-off of the former Vorwerk / Rittergut.

history

Jugelsburg was first mentioned in a document in 1483. Jugelsburg seems to be even older, as the gentlemen "von Jeßnitz vff der Gugelsperg" acquired a fiefdom in Eichigt. Today only minimal remains of the castle hill remain. The castle rose on the stepped sloping terrain on the railway line opposite the former perennial mill (later furniture factory Bleyer & Dörfelt, Musima, GEWA). With a size of approx. 25 to 30 m downhill and approx. 20 to 24 m along the Elstertal, it served as a fortification and residence. It was a small castle and therefore had a keep, curtain wall, ramparts and a moat. On June 10, 1632, the "Feste Haus" was burned down in the course of the Schmalkaldic War by the troops of General Holck . The last remains of the wall disappeared during the construction of the Plauen – Cheb railway line in 1864/1865 due to blasting work. In 1542 there was also a Vorwerk / Rittergut of the noble family von Gößnitz who owned these goods on Gugelspurgk (Jugelsburg, Ingelsberg) and were expropriated after the Second World War through the land reform . Other lords or lords of the castle in Jugelsburg were the Thossen and von Kotzau . Jugelsburg belonged to the Voigtsberg office until the 19th century .

On May 17, 1839, Jugelsburg became an independent municipality in the course of the introduction of the constitutional monarchy in Saxony through the election of the Jugelsburg municipality elder (who held the duties of village mayor) and the first municipality board (municipality council). Just one day later, the same election - also in the Jugelsburger Wirtshaus - was carried out for the community of Sohl . Both freshly elected community elders and both community boards were sworn in on May 31, 1839 (one may assume, together) - again in the Jugelsburg village inn. On July 1, 1950, Jugelsburg was incorporated into the city of Adorf . The economy of the village was shaped by the old manor in the Middle Ages . In addition, cottagers and gardeners, later small and medium-sized farmers and craftsmen, contributed to the economic development. In the 18th and 19th centuries, as elsewhere in the region, the main line of business, mostly working from home, developed musical instrument making, mother-of-pearl processing, hand embroidery and white sewing. But also bakers, tailors, shoemakers and a "mom and pop shop" shaped the townscape. There were also special trades such as pump construction or a furniture factory. An inn, a pub and a bottled beer shop were also located in the village.

Memorials

In the honor grove of the village there is a war memorial for the victims of the First World War , which was erected by the residents around 1920. After being redesigned by the National Socialists as a memorial for the National Uprising, it was abandoned in the GDR after the Second World War . Opened in 2011, it was restored by donations from the population and the names of the fallen of the village in 2012 WWII added.

traffic

Jugelsburg is on the B 92 and on the K7846 district road. The Plauen – Cheb railway line was built in 1865 and runs through the Jugelsburg district in the valley of the White Elster. The Elsterradweg, built in 2013, also runs through the town between the Weißer Elster and the railway.

Culture and sights

The renovated war memorial in the Ehrenhain is worth seeing. Cultural events such as dialect days, village Christmas parties and music evenings often take place in the guest house's hall.

In Jugelsburg there is a dollhouse and shop exhibition in November and December, which takes place in the hall of the inn.

Buildings

Jugelsburg is a village-like scattered settlement on the slopes of the village mountain with newer single-family houses and old farmsteads. The only public buildings, the “old” school built in 1841 and the “new” school built in 1904, were demolished in the 2000s because they were in disrepair. Until 1950, some rooms of the inn were also used as a municipal office.

music

The male choir "Friendship" was formed in 1954 and had its regular pub in the inn. From this the present day railway choir was created. The musical instrument making tradition continues today only in the GEWA music located on Jugelsburger Flur.

Sports

Sports can be played on the Jugelsburger Waldsportplatz, which was originally designed as a field handball field and was provided with soccer goals in the 1990s. In addition to football, it is used for riding exercises.

societies

Gymnastics club flag

Before the Second World War there was a variety of club life in Jugelsburg. There was the bowling club “There they lie”, the gymnastics club “Father Jahn”, its own fire department, the military club “Prince Albert”, the whistle club “Worry-free” and the youth club “Sociability”. The male choir "Friendship" was formed in 1954. The Jugelsburger Kickers had been active since 1990. Since the 525th anniversary in 2008, village life has flourished again. A village club of its own, which takes care of the needs of the village without a club corset, brings life in the village forward again with various events. Otherwise, the Jugelsburger are in the clubs of the city of Adorf / Vogtl. organized.
