Art Nouveau -

Art Nouveau is the second album by the Bernese hip-hop group 6er Gascho . The sound carrier was released on August 17, 2007 on the independent label Nation Music and was the first release of the band to enter the Swiss charts. Art Nouveau was largely produced by Sad .

Emergence

6er Gascho, which is a Bernese expression for a six-pack, was founded in 2000 and has since consisted of the three rappers Nestor, Tesor and Yuri , the DJs Bowser and Jones and the manager Lorenzo Albisetti. In the year it was founded, the music group released its first mixtape and in the following years was mainly on stage as the opening act for the Chlyklass artists. In 2005 the members signed a contract with Nation Music and released their EP Schwarz uf Wiss . The debut album Itz oder nie followed , whereby the music video I ha ke Bock in particular attracted attention and reached the 12th place of the most played clips on Viva Switzerland.

In 2007 the members of 6er Gascho finally created the album Art Nouveau . The pieces were recorded in Studio Obe im Eggä by the music producer Sad. Further recordings were made in the Aggro Studios Berlin , the g-cookin'-Studio in Chur and the Studio U3 in Bern. The album was mixed by Jan Stehle in the Studiomamma in Münchenbuchsee . The last development process, the so-called mastering , was carried out by Sascha Bühren in Truebusyness.

Guest Posts

Art Nouveau contains guest contributions, so-called features, by three different artists. Other musicians are involved in certain songs without being specifically named as a guest. In the title song Jugendstil , the Berlin rapper B-Tight appears, who at the time was under contract with the successful independent label Aggro Berlin . This is the second collaboration Aggro Berlin with artists of Nation Music after the rapper Sido 2006 a guest contribution to the album I gega d'Schwiiz of Gimma delivered. Nation Music also distributes Aggro Berlin's sound carriers in Switzerland.

Gimma himself is represented on the song Z 'Schwach , in which he sings the hookline and also raps the first half of the second verse. A short vocal part by the singer Seven appears in the same title, but he is not listed as a guest musician. Si numä einisch jung was created in collaboration with the Zug hip-hop duo Fratelli-B .

production

The main producer of the album is the Bern music producer Sad, who is also under contract with Nation Music. 13 art nouveau songs were produced and arranged by him. In addition, the two MCs Nestor and Tesor are musically involved: Tesor produced the pieces Mis erschtä Mau and in love i ... . The instrumentals for Ohyeah! and what's going on ?! were created by Nestor and Tesor together. Freaza is responsible for the piece Samschtiiig . Farewell was produced by Riga and Boulawan for Union Beats Switzerland.

For the unplugged version of the song Gang (nid) , Sad's original instrumental was played on acoustic instruments. The producer himself operated the piano . Mich Gerber (double bass), Janòs Heidekker (violin) and Brigitte Rieder (cello) are also involved as strings . The element of scratching is used in several songs . This was done by the group's two DJs, Jones and Bowser.

Texts

Many songs on the album contain the eponymous Art Nouveau . The MCs describe the modern youth in Switzerland as more independent, versatile and also more violent. The intro consists of instrumental news reports about violence and criminal offenses committed by young people and the emergence of a “new Art Nouveau” . The theme song also takes up the theme:

We're the youth where violence rises, where a few people bleed for a few euros. I don't tell fairy tales, I don't combed horses, I had to shine shoes for people who are not worth it. I'm out of the area, but my heart is always there, me and the MV a couple forever. if someone tells the truth, you shouldn't argue, it happens that jaws break every now and then. I'm talking about sex but you already know that. The police say “Now, put your hands up!” It's me, I'm grinning, your children are celebrating me, that's not bad. That's how young people talk today, that's how cool people talk. Sons become players, all daughters become cool sows. That's how I grew up, an occasional argument. Well: I am me and it stays that way! "

- B-Tights Part in the song Art Nouveau

Other songs contain battle rap or elements of self-expression. Club and concert life becomes the theme in several pieces. The genre of storrytelling is used in Gömer or Gömer nid, for example . The song describes a bank robbery by the group, whereby Tesor flees with the loot and leaves his comrades to the police. In Miserschtä Mau , Tesor reports on his first sexual experiences. Gang (nid) and Z 'can be counted weakly as personal songs . The former is a declaration of love by the rappers to a female person and, according to the lyrics, ties in with the song Bimer from the album Itz or never . Z 'Schwach addresses the weaknesses of humanity when it comes to resisting temptation. The MCs involved speak both in the first and in the second person.

marketing

A music video was shot for the theme song together with B-Tight. The clip takes place at dusk, against the backdrop of an unofficial car race and combines real recordings with comic images.

As part of the album release, 6er Gascho also completed a concert tour. This began on August 31, 2007 with a performance at the Scout Festival in Solothurn and ended after twelve concerts in the Schüür in Lucerne on November 17. The record baptism took place on September 14th in the Bierhübeli in Bern. Stickers advertising the tour can still be found all over Bern today.

reception

Art Nouveau entered the Swiss album charts at number 12 on September 2, 2007 and stayed among the 100 best-selling records for six weeks. The recording was last at number 97 on October 7th.

The reviews of the album were consistently positive. On the Music.ch website , both the editors and readers rated the publication with four out of a possible six points. In the corresponding review , Art Nouveau is described positively: “First of all, it is noticeable that the boys have perfected their singing skills. Tracks like "Wieder hie!" or "Vatter i ha chaut" have catchy hooklines that would also do well on the radio. […] In terms of rhyme technique, the three MCs Yuri, Nestor and Tesor have gained a lot. They surprise with tempo changes and syllable games; With "Gang (nid)" and "Miserschtä Mau" they also put two tracks on the album that have a lot of depth. "Art Nouveau" is a big step forward compared to last year's release. "

The cover of the album shows Yuri, Tesor and Nestor in front of a large window with wine-red curtains. The edge of the picture is decorated in white. On the back of the booklet, Bowser, Jones and Lorenzo can be seen against the same background. The booklet also contains individual photos of all members, a photo of the entire group and all lyrics. The artwork was designed by Michi "MM75" Lüthi, the photos were taken by Tim Lüdin.
