Juha Malinen (born July 16, 1958 in Oulu ) is a Finnish football coach .

Career

Juha Malinen was never active as a professional football player. In 1978 he enrolled in the Faculty of Education at the University of Oulu . During his work as a teacher he discovered his interest in soccer training, as the effects of his work can be seen particularly quickly in this area. In 1986 he became the coach of the soccer team at the Kastelli Sports High School. The team at that time included the later Finnish national players Antti Niemi , Mika Nurmela and Ville Nylund . He also taught sports and art at a nearby school for the hearing impaired. With an extremely defensive tactic, Malinen's team reached a surprising 5th place at the 1989 World Schools Championship. During his time at the Kastelli Sports High School , he also worked on the coaching staff at Pelimiehet and Oulun Luistinseura . This was followed by an engagement at Rauman Pallo , where his young protégés Niemi and Nurmela followed. In the summer of 1990, the Finnish Football Association appointed him coach of the U-15 and U-16 national teams.

After 3 years Juha Malinen returned to his hometown Oulu in 1993 and coached FC Oulu . Despite the rise, the club struggled with enormous financial problems. Malinen therefore moved on to league rivals Turku PS , with whom he completely surprisingly won the Finnish Football Cup in his first season in 1994 . Although his club was able to establish itself in the league in the following years, Malinen moved again within the Finnish first division to Myllykosken Pallo -47 . At his new club he had more financial leeway and was able to put together a better team. This established itself in the top group of the league, but could not win a championship title. In 2004 Malinen devoted himself to a new task and led the traditional club Kuopion PS , which had recently been relegated to the Ykkönen , back into the upper house. Despite the integration of promising young players such as Pyry Kärkkäinen or Berat Sadik , the club was unable to keep the class and was relegated again in 2006. Curiously, Kuopio won the League Cup before the season started.

After his release, the Finn left his homeland for the first time and coached the team of the Kazakh first division club Shakhtar Karagandy from January to July 2007 . He led the club to 3rd place in the table and thus also to qualify for the 2008/09 UEFA Cup . Then Malinen briefly took over the coaching post of the Kazakh U-21 national team . In 2008 he returned to Finland and coached AC Oulu . After a 4th place in the table in the first year he reached the championship in the second division with the club in 2009 and thus promotion to the Veikkausliiga . Mika Nurmela was once again in the squad. In the first Finnish league, Juha Malinen and his team managed to stay in the league. Due to financial problems, Oulu was not granted a license and had to start again in the second division. Behind FC Lahti and local rivals Oulun Palloseura , the club finished third in 2011. The most successful goalscorer in Malinen's team was newcomer Randy Edwini-Bonsu , who was then signed by German second division club Eintracht Braunschweig . Malinen left the club at the end of the season.

In September 2012 he took over the coaching position at FC Haka, which was threatened with relegation . At the end of the season, FC Haka was bottom of the table and Malinen received no new contract. After a commitment at FC Lahti , Malinen has been under contract with Rovaniemi PS since 2014 .
