Julianes barberry ( Berberis julianae ), also Moreton Bay barberry called, is a species of the genus barberry ( Berberis ) in the family of Barberry (Berberidaceae). Their home is in central China , in the western part of Hubei Province . It was introduced in Europe in 1900 by Ernest Henry Wilson , who collected plants for Veitch and Sons in western and central China from 1899 to 1905 .

Julian's barberry is a medium-sized, upright and very dense, evergreen shrub , the branches are arching overhanging when old . It reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters and is often wider than it is tall. The bark of the twigs is furrowed and yellowish, becoming gray with age, very strong. This shrub has leaf spines up to 4 mm long. The alternate leaves are up to 10 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, sawn three to four times per cm of leaf margin, coarse leathery, dark green, pale green below, copper-colored when shoots.
The flowering period extends from May to June. The flowers stand together in dense clusters. The slightly fragrant flowers are hermaphroditic. The petals are yellow.
The elongated fruits are black and ripened to blue.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28 + 2B.
Use as an ornamental plant
The location should be sunny to shady. The soil should be moderately dry to moist, acidic to alkaline and there should be a good topsoil . It is frost hardy, urban climates and tolerates temporary drought. This shrub makes a good hedge plant.

The hybrid between Julian's barberry and Thunberg's barberry ( Berberis thunbergii ) is called Berberis × mentorensis L.M. Ames called.
