Life

Julius Groeschel studied civil engineering and architecture at the Technical University of Munich . In the winter semester of 1880/1881 he joined the Corps Vitruvia Munich. After completing his studies, he initially worked as a clerk at the Amberg agricultural office. In 1886 he switched to the Royal Bavarian State Railways as a technical assistant . For a few years he interrupted his service with the Bavarian State Railways to work as the ducal Saxon court architect in Meiningen , where his son, the later Chiemsee painter W. Rudolf Groeschel (1891–1985), was born in 1891 . When Dr. phil. and engineer assistant at the Oberbahnamt Nürnberg, he was appointed department engineer in 1892. In 1896 he was transferred to the General Management of the State Railways in Munich. In the same year he was appointed production engineer. Meanwhile board member with the title and rank of government councilor at the general management, he was promoted to government councilor at the railway management in Munich in 1907. In 1913 he was promoted to the higher government council of the State Ministry for Transport Affairs. In 1915 he was awarded the title and rank of Ministerial Councilor as a structural engineer . Since the transfer of the Bavarian State Railways to the German Reich, until his retirement on February 1, 1924, he was a ministerial advisor at the Bavarian branch of the Reich Ministry of Transport . A few months later he died in Munich.

In his administrative area, he turned to small apartment construction in particular. During the construction of numerous railway settlements, he was responsible for the architectural design and construction. In his architectural style, he adapted to the building traditions of the respective landscapes in Franconia and Upper Bavaria. Using his practical experience in building small houses, he wrote a guideline that was valid across the whole of Germany through the Association of German Railway Administrations.

In 1909 Groeschel was elected the first chairman of the Bavarian State Association for Homeland Security. In this role Groeschel was one of the organizers of the Bavarian Trade Show in Munich in 1912, for which Prince Regent Luitpold awarded him the highest recognition. Thanks to his personal commitment and dedication, the restoration of Neuburg am Inn Castle , which took almost fourteen years to complete, was thanks to him.

From 1910 he headed the building advice center of the Bavarian State Housing Association.

He published on architectural topics in numerous magazine articles.
