Julius Schieder

Julius Schieder (born July 17, 1888 in Weißenburg in Bavaria , † July 29, 1964 in Nuremberg ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran senior church councilor and district dean of Nuremberg.

Life

Julius Schieder was born on July 17, 1888 in the Blue House in Weißenburg as the third of four sons of Julius Schieder senior. and Henriette Schieder, b. Rössel born. His siblings died young or were killed in the First or Second World War . From 1906 to 1910 studied Schieder at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen and at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen theology . During his studies in Erlangen he became a member of the Bubenreuther fraternity in the winter semester of 1906/07 . He finished his studies in Bavaria as the second best of his class. On July 11, 1918, he married Wiltrud Clauss in Augsburg and had six children with her. From 1915 Schieder was pastor at St. Jakob in Augsburg and from May 1, 1928 director of the preacher's seminary in Nuremberg.

The seminar director, who was critical of the National Socialist regime because of his critical stance, gave a lecture in the Festhalle in Neustadt an der Aisch on the occasion of the Luther anniversary in 1933 , according to which a Luther hymn was performed by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy . At the end of May 1934 he took part in the Barmen Confessing Synod, where the Barmen Theological Declaration was drawn up.

From 1935 to 1958 he held the office of district dean of Nuremberg with the title of Oberkirchenrat. From 1951 to 1958 he was the main preacher of the Lorenz Church in Nuremberg. In 1958 he retired. Julius Schieder died of a heart attack on July 29, 1964 . He was buried in the Johannisfriedhof (Nuremberg), the funeral speech was given by Oberkirchenrat Eugen Giegler.
