Julius Spielmann (born March 5, 1872 in Fünfhaus , Lower Austria (now part of Vienna ); † January 13, 1925 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP ) and editor . He was a councilor in Linz and a member of the Austrian House of Representatives .

Life

Spielmann attended the elementary and community school in Vienna and then completed an apprenticeship as a printer there. From 1892 he worked as a typesetter at the Wimmer printing company in Linz and for a short time in Bad Ischl and in 1897 became editor of the social democratic party newspaper Truth! . He has also been a partner in the Gutenberg party printing company since it was founded. Spielmann moved to Innsbruck in 1911 as an editor for the Volks-Zeitung and from around 1915 worked as a secretary for the Innsbruck district health insurance fund. In 1920 he became an administrative officer of the Alpenland daily newspaper before he switched to the Wagner printing works as a proofreader and from 1923 was again editor of the Volks-Zeitung.

Spielmann was politically active as a local councilor between 1905 and 1911, and he also ran for the Reichsrat election in 1907 in the constituency of Austria ob der Enns 1 (Linz), where he voted 53.3% against the candidate of the German People's Party with the support of the Christian Socials could enforce. He belonged in the sequence during the XI. Legislative period between June 17, 1907 and March 30, 1911 before the Reichsrat. In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Spielmann did not run because of an internal party conflict. After 1918, however, he was a member of the Innsbruck municipal council.

Spielmann was born as the son of the treasurer of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Jakob Spielmann. He was originally of Jewish faith, probably without a denomination after 1900, and later converted to the Roman Catholic faith. He married Josefine Scheuchl in 1896 and had two sons and a daughter.
