Julius Theodor Erbstein

Julius Theodor Erbstein (born March 23, 1803 in Meißen , † October 4, 1882 in Dresden ) was a German archivist and numismatist .

Julius Theodor Erbstein, son of the bookseller , historian and numismatist Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Erbstein , studied law at the University of Leipzig from 1822 to 1826 . He then worked as a lawyer and notary in Dresden . From 1834 to 1836 he was editor of the laws and ordinances of the Kingdom of Saxony . From 1839 he worked as an archivist at the main state archive in Dresden, initially as the second archivist, from 1849 until his retirement in 1861 as the first archivist.

His sons Julius and Albert Erbstein both became well-known numismatists and directors of museums in Dresden. He and his sons were buried in the Erbstein family grave on the Trinity cemetery in Dresden .
