Juoza's Tunaitis

Juozas Tunaitis (born October 25, 1928 in Davainiškis , Rokiškis , † June 1, 2012 in Vilnius ) was auxiliary bishop in Vilnius .

Life

After graduating from high school with honors at Rokiškis Gymnasium in 1949, Juozas Tunaitis first studied mathematics and astronomy at Vilnius University . In 1950 he entered the seminary one of Kaunas. After studying Catholic theology and philosophy , Juozas Tunaitis was ordained a priest on September 12, 1954 . He worked as a pastor in Palūšė, Dūkštas, Dubičiai and Vilnius and since 1980 for the Ordinariate in Vilnius. In 1980 he was appointed Chaplain to His Holiness by Pope John Paul II ( Monsignore) appointed. In 1992 he became Vicar General in the Archdiocese of Vilnius .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Vilnius and titular bishop of Sassura on May 8, 1991 . The Archbishop of Kaunas , Vincentas Cardinal Sladkevičius MIC , donated him episcopal ordination on May 19 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Vladas Michelevičius , Auxiliary Bishop in Kaunas , Antanas Vaičius , Bishop Telšiai , Romualdas Krikščiūnas , Apostolic Administrator Emeritus of Panevėžys , and Juozas Preikšas , Apostolic Administrator of Panevėžys.

On March 4, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.

In 2007 he was honored by President Valdas Adamkus for his work.

He is an honorary citizen of Rokiškis.
