Yuri Mikhailovich Pojarkow ( Ukrainian Юрій Михайлович Поярков ; born February 10, 1937 in Kharkiv , † February 10, 2017 in Kharkiv) was a Soviet - Ukrainian volleyball player .

Poyarkov won gold with the Soviet national team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 and in Mexico in 1968 and bronze in 1972 in Munich . He was also twice world champion ( 1960 and 1962 ) and achieved bronze in 1966 . He was European champion in 1967 and 1971 and third at the 1963 European championship . In addition, Poyarkov won the World Cup in 1965 and came third in 1969.

With Burevestnik Kharkiv Poyarkov won the Soviet championship in 1967.

In 2009 Yuri Pojarkow was inducted into the " Volleyball Hall of Fame ". He died in Kharkiv in 2017 on his 80th birthday.
