The Juribei ( Russian Юрибе́й ) is a 479 km long tributary of the Kara Sea on the Gydan Peninsula in northwestern Siberia ( Russia ). It is not to be confused with another tributary of the Kara Sea on the Jamal Peninsula called Juribei .

course

The Juribei flows at a height of about 100  m from a small lake in the southwestern part of the Gydan Peninsula, a good 60 kilometers northeast of Cape Trjochbugorny at the confluence of the Tasbusen with the Obbusen . It mostly meanders strongly through the tundra landscape of the Gydan Peninsula in a wide, swampy floodplain with many lakes in a predominantly north-east to north direction. In sections it forms several arms in the middle and lower reaches. It finally flows a good 15 kilometers below (north) the village Juribei with several arms in the Gydan bosom of the Kara Sea , a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean . The Gydan bosom lies between the obbus and the mouth of the Yenisei . The main estuary is over a kilometer wide and four meters deep above the estuary delta; its flow rate is 0.1 m / s.

The most important tributaries of the Juribei Nerossawojacha, Chanaweijacha, Jungijacha, Sjakutajacha and Ampossjacha from the right and Toramjujacha, Maretajacha and Jaratossjo from the left.

Hydrology

The catchment area of the river covers 11,700 km². It freezes over from October to June and floods when the snowmelts in June to July.

The lower course of the river is under the influence of tides .

Economy and Infrastructure

The middle and lower reaches of the Juribei are navigable. However, the river is not used as an inland waterway .

The area through which the Juribei flows is very sparsely populated, mainly by nomadic Nenets . The population density of the Tasowski Rajons through which it flows is only 0.1 inhabitants / km². Apart from the small village Juribei, named after the river, near the mouth, there are no other villages on the river. There is currently no traffic infrastructure in the area. Natural gas deposits have been discovered in the catchment area of the river , but have not yet been developed, for example Soletskoye-Chanaweiskoye and Gydanskoye .
