action

Justin Rogers is a rebellious thirteen-year-old boy who loves to play nasty pranks on his family. However, this hobby does not go down very well with his parents and his older sister and so he is kept under house arrest . Even shortly before setting off for the “Timberland National Park”, Justin can't help scare his parents with a bursting balloon on the car exhaust. In return, he is now being given house arrest for the entire vacation, which he reluctantly has to accept. When differences arise between him and his sister Kate on the drive and an argument breaks out, Justin crawls into the trunk in order not to notice anything more of family life.

When the family stops at a restaurant shop, Justin waits until his family is gone and he can get out and buy some chewing gum. Coincidentally, at that very moment, a second car drives next to the Rogers car, which looks exactly the same. Justin, who is absorbed in his music with his Walkman , does not notice this and climbs into the trunk of the wrong car - which belongs to the two petty criminals Perry and Kurt, who drive to a secluded holiday cabin deeper in Timberland National Park. He witnessed a kidnapping plan directed against the daughter of the toy manufacturer Stu Stuart, Chelsea, and which soon became a reality.

Justin gets right in the middle of the action, but keeps an eye on the two perpetrators and also befriends Chelsea, who is still locked in the hut. He tries to come up with a plan to save her. In the meantime, Justin's family is very worried about him. After the communication with the incompetent local police didn't work, Justin suddenly comes back by himself, but his story is not believed and he comes back to his house arrest. So he sneaks away again in the night and builds up a lot of traps in front of Perry and Kurt's hut in order to escape with Chelsea in the vortex, which at first succeeds. However, they get lost in the forest and are ultimately caught again by a friend of the two perpetrators, who has an extraordinary ability to smell and who only calls himself “the sniffer dog”.

The three criminals leave Justin in their hut and go to a certain place in the forest to hand over the ransom, where a travel bag is dropped from the helicopter. Contrary to what was planned, however, they are not letting Chelsea go, but want to continue to hold her in order to be protected in the future by her father's ransom. Justin is able to free himself from the hut and comes across his family, who have gone back to find him. Together they manage to cross the path of the perpetrators and finally free Chelsea by means of a diversionary maneuver and call the police. Justin and Chelsea's two families then spend Thanksgiving together.
