The prison Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a prison of the State of Bavaria in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . It is affiliated with the Landsberg am Lech JVA in terms of administration and supply . The building is a listed building on the basis of the Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973, the file number is D-1-80-117-41.

Historical development

The building was erected from 1894 to 1896 and served as quarters for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district court until January 1960 . The eaves-side wing with a gable risalit has overhanging roofs and a late classical plaster structure. The cell wing is connected to the rear. The property is located on Burgstrasse and has a size of 2386 m².

General

Until December 31, 1977, the penal institution was run by the Garmisch-Partenkirchen District Court. It was then affiliated to the Landsberg am Lech correctional facility. The JVA Garmisch-Partenkirchen is only intended for the execution of the first execution up to 18 months and of the regular execution up to one year. Only men from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district court are enforced.

The prison currently has a capacity of 51 prison places, nine of which are single and 42 communal places. On November 30, 2000, there were 47 prisoners in the institution; on December 31, 2018, there were 45 prisoners. The average occupancy in the institution was around 43 prisoners in the calendar years 2017 and 2018.

The former women's section was closed and converted into an outdoor section. The occupancy situation has thus eased somewhat.
