Moor culture institute, later the state institute for moor management . From 1901 on the transports to and from Laufen were waived and the workers stayed in Bernau after work. In the same year, a branch of the Laufen prison was set up in the town. From December 1, 1920, this branch became an independent prison. In 1954, a sub-facility with 250 to 300 places was built three kilometers from the main building. The people housed there were employed in peat cultivation and peat extraction.
Some buildings from the 1920s are registered architectural monuments . The Bavarian Moor and Peat Museum is now located in the former carpentry shop .
