Justus Christoph Schomer
Justus Christoph Schomer , also Schomerus (born April 12, 1648 in Lübeck , † April 9, 1693 in Rostock ) was a German Lutheran theologian and university professor.
Life
Schomer was the son of Nikolaus Schomer , who at the time of his birth was working as a lawyer and procurator in Lübeck. He first grew up in Braunschweig when his father was appointed to the city syndicus there. In 1664 the family returned to Lübeck, and Nikolaus Schomer was initially again a lawyer and in 1669 a councilor .
After visiting the Katharineum , Justus Christoph Schomer studied Hebrew at the University of Kiel , in 1668 with Stephan Masius in Wismar and from 1669–1671 at the University of Gießen . In 1672 he made a scholarly journey through Italy and France ; He then continued his studies in Giessen for a year before making another trip, this time through Holland and England. Schomer, who had been enrolled at the University of Rostock since 1665 , renewed his matriculation in March 1677 and began studying theology here, which he completed with an examination and a successful disputation. In 1680 he became princely professor of theology (extraconciliar) in Rostock and received his doctorate in theology. In 1685 he was appointed first princely professor (Primarius) of theology; In 1692, at the request of the Duke, he refused a call to the University of Wittenberg , who assured him of an increase in salary as a defense against appeal .
Schomer was twice rector of the university (1687, 1687/88) and several times dean of the theological faculty.
He was a member and temporarily director of the Princely Consistory and Superintendent of the Mecklenburg and Ratzeburg Church Districts .
Since 1683 he was married to Anna Katharina Vette (1662–1688) from Lübeck.
