Jutta D. Haug (born October 8, 1951 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2014. Here she was 1st deputy chairwoman of the budget committee and chairwoman of the special committee on political challenges and the budget for a sustainable European Union after 2013 .

Education and professional career

After attending the Ernst-Barlach-Gymnasium in Castrop-Rauxel until 1970, Jutta Haug worked for the German Red Cross . In 1974 she made up her Abitur at the evening grammar school in Aachen and then studied history and social sciences at the University of Aachen and the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1975 to 1980 . From 1981 to 1987 she was not employed; from May 1987 to 1994 she worked as a research assistant for various members of the state and federal parliament. At the same time, she completed an apprenticeship as an economic and financial advisor.

Political career

After Haug joined the SPD in January 1969, she was a member of the city council of Herten from 1989 to 1994, and from 1991 to 2007 chairwoman of the Working Group of Social Democratic Women (ARSP) in the Recklinghausen district , and from 1996 to 2002 also the ARSP in the Western Westphalia district . From 1992 to 2001 she was also a member of the SPD district executive in western Westphalia. From 1997 to 2001 she was a member of the federal executive committee of the SPD, from 2001 to 2010 in the North Rhine-Westphalian state executive committee.

In the European elections in 1994 Haug won a mandate for the European Parliament for the first time , which she was able to defend in 1999 , 2004 and 2009 respectively. Like all SPD members in the European Parliament, she belongs to the social democratic group S&D . She looks after the Emscher-Lippe region ( Recklinghausen , Bottrop , Gelsenkirchen and Herne districts ).

Haug's main areas of work include EU budgetary and financial policy , regional and structural policy , environmental and consumer policy, and EU education policy. In the 2009–14 electoral term, she is deputy chairperson of the Budget Committee . From July 2010 to June 2011 she chaired the special committee on political challenges and budgetary resources for a sustainable European Union after 2013. This committee dealt in particular with the preparation of the EU's multiannual financial framework for 2014–2020.
