Jutta Meyfarth (born May 14, 1927 in Felsberg ) is a German opera singer with a soprano voice .

Life

Meyfarth grew up in Melsungen . The trained teacher accepted her first engagement at the Basel City Theater in 1955 . After working at the Stadttheater Aachen from 1956 to 1959, she was engaged at the Frankfurt Opera in 1959, to which she was a member until the end of her career. This was followed by appearances in 1960 and 1963 at La Scala in Milan and in 1961 at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as Elsa in Richard Wagner's romantic opera Lohengrin . The musical dramas of Wagner formed a focus in Meyfarth's opera repertoire in the period that followed. From 1962 to 1964 she was a member of the Bayreuth Festival ensemble . There she sang Freia in Das Rheingold , Sieglinde in Die Walküre and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung . In 1965 she appeared at the Munich Opera Festival as Donna Anna in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni .

She performed at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (1962 in Der Ring des Nibelungen ), at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (1963, title role in Jenůfa ), at the Graz Opera House (1970) and at the Covent Garden Opera in London (as Chrysothemis in Elektra ). Meyfarth gave guest performances a. a. at the Teatro Communale in Bologna , at the Opera House of Rome , at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon as well as in Athens , Mexico City , Trieste , Lyon , Nice , Marseille and Antwerp .

Jutta Meyfarth sang the youthful-dramatic soprano part; later she expanded her repertoire with parts from the highly dramatic soprano subject ( Isolde in Tristan und Isolde ). Meyfarth's roles outside of the Wagner trade were Kaiserin in Die Frau ohne Schatten , Marta in Tiefland and the title role in Aida .

She was a guest on the television show One Will Win, recorded on June 18, 1966 . In 1974 she said goodbye to the opera stage. After she quit singing, she returned to her teaching profession and worked as a primary school teacher . She has lived in Kassel since retirement .

Meyfarth's voice is documented through recordings of radio broadcasts , including those from the Bayreuth Festival.
