Andrew Terence Juxon-Smith
Andrew Terence Juxon-Smith (* 1933 in Freetown , Sierra Leone ; † 1996 , USA ) was a brigadier or lieutenant colonel of the Royal Sierra Leone Military Forces and briefly head of state of Sierra Leone.
Life
Juxon-Smith joined the Army in 1951 and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1953 .
He took power in Sierra Leone on March 27, 1967 through a coup as chairman of the National Reform Council (NRC). Previously there were two more coups within six days . He was overthrown by a military man, John Amadu Bangura and Patrick Conteh , almost a year later on April 18, 1968. A little later, he reinstated the elected head of state Siaka Stevens . Juxon-Smith was charged with high treason initially sentenced to death and then sat about seven years in prison. After his release, he left Sierra Leone and moved to the United States of America . He was married with at least three children, including Solomon Juxon-Smith, who lives in New York City (as of July 2017).
