The area calves and rabbits Klamm gorge is one with Regulation of 20 November 2007 of the Regional Council Karlsruhe been instructed European bird sanctuary (reserve identifier DE-7016-401) in Württemberg Baden- district of Karlsruhe and the city of Karlsruhe in Germany .

location

The approximately 21 hectare (ha) large bird sanctuary "Kälberklamm and Hasenklamm" is located north of the Alb and Landesstrasse 613 , between Ettlingen in the west and Waldbronn in the east. It is divided between the city of Karlsruhe and the municipality of Waldbronn (9.46% = 2.01 ha), which is part of the Karlsruhe district, and the city of Ettlingen (90.53% = 19.26 ha).

The protected area "Kälberklamm and Hasenklamm" is described as "two Kerbbach systems with natural sources, with typical animal and plant communities, canyon forest communities and former quarries that provide habitat for drought-loving animals and plants".

Protection purpose

The area-related conservation objectives are described differently depending on the species :

Breeding birds

Breeding bird species that are listed in Appendix I of the Birds Directive and for which special measures are to be applied across Europe. A total of 39 species fall into this category in Baden-Württemberg and two species in the “Kälberklamm and Hasenklamm” protected area .

Black Woodpecker ( Dryocopus martius )

Preservation of extensive forests, old trees and islands of old wood, dead wood, preservation of trees with large caves as well as the food supply, especially with ants.

Peregrine falcon ( Falco peregrinus )

Preservation of the open rock walls and quarries with caves, niches and ledges, preservation of habitats without sources of danger such as non-bird-safe overhead lines and unsecured chimneys as well as preservation of undisturbed or at least undisturbed breeding sites during reproduction in the period from February 15 to July 30.

Migratory birds

Other migratory bird species not listed in Appendix I that breed in the country and have been selected for the protected areas. A total of 36 species fall into this category in Baden-Württemberg; No species is recorded in the “Kälberklamm and Hasenklamm” protected area.

Contiguous protected areas
