Location of Käseburg in Lower Saxony

Käseburg than peasantry a district of Brake in Wesermarsch .

history

Käseburg originated in the early 16th century when the area was diked. The land had previously been lost to storm surges, especially around 1400. In 1663, during a storm surge, the Käseburger Brake broke through the Weser dike, directly north of the old Hammelwarder Siel. Other sources report that the Käseburger Brake was not created until the Christmas flood in 1717 . In 1857, the Käseburger Sielacht was formed from a merger of the Hammerlwarder and the Oldenbroker Sielacht. It included Hammelwarden, Elsfleth , Rastede , Oldenbrok and Großenmeer ; an area of 58 square kilometers. In 1858/59, the Käseburger Siel was built from massive bricks. The Käseburg estuary pumping station followed in 1958. The Weser dike broke near Käseburg during the heavy February storm surge in 1962.
