Käthe Graus , nee Käthe Braun , married Käthe Krepela (born January 21, 1921 in Düren , † April 12, 1974 in Essen ), was a German opera and operetta singer ( soprano ) and a singing teacher .

Life

Käthe Graus, daughter of a paper wholesaler, wanted to become a writer , but changed her career aspiration to singer. She studied concert singing at the Cologne University of Music . When she stepped in as Amelia at a performance of Verdi's masked ball in Münster , her soprano voice was also discovered for opera. Her commitment to the Essen Municipal Theaters, which has been documented since the early 1950s, lasted for many years. There she sang the title role in the German premiere of Martinůs Mirandolina in 1960 .

In between she had radio visits. She interpreted numerous modern roles, such as the bride in the funk opera Der Wald by Wolfgang Fortner , Queen Isabella in the funk opera Columbus by Werner Egk and Ismene in Antigone by Arthur Honegger . Later she was employed as a vocal trainer at the Folkwang School . She increasingly preferred operettas, as is documented on recordings .

Most recently, she was married to Josef Krepela, the conductor and choir director of the Städtische Bühnen Essen and conductor of the Ruhrland Orchestra, which specializes in evergreens and operetta melodies. From this marriage a daughter was born.
