Kathe Wolf

Katherine M. Wolf (born June 2, 1907 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; died December 1967 in New York City ) was an Austrian-American child psychologist.

Life

Käthe Wolf was the daughter of Julius Wolf and Sidonie Braun. She studied at the University of Vienna from 1926 and soon belonged to the group of employees around Karl Bühler and Charlotte Bühler . In 1929 she visited the IX with the two of them. International Congress of Psychology held at Yale University in New Haven . She received her doctorate from Karl Bühler in 1929 and remained active in his area.

After Austria's annexation in 1938, Wolf emigrated to Switzerland, where she found employment at the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Institute in Geneva in 1939 . In 1941 she fled to the USA. In New York she worked from 1944 to 1946 in the Bureau of Applied Social Research established by Paul Lazarsfeld . From 1949 she taught child psychology at Yale University, from 1950 as an assistant professor , from 1953 as an associate professor . From 1950 to 1952 she held a teaching position at the Graduate School of the City College of New York . René A. Spitz produced a series of educational films with her on child development.
