Köksal Mesçi , rarely also Köksal Mesci (born January 1, 1945 in Trabzon ), is a former Turkish football player and coach. His name is associated with the traditional associations MKE Ankaragücü and Adanaspor . At both clubs he was part of the teams that achieved one of the most important successes in club history. His brother Tuncay Mesçi , who was two years younger than him, was also a professional footballer and, like Köksal, became a Turkish national player .
Career
society
Mesçi learned to play football as a street footballer. After word of his talent got around, he was accepted into the youth department of the local football club Trabzon İdmanocağı , the first and then strongest club in the city. In 1965 he was accepted into the professional squad and played for them for a year. In the summer of 1966, the capital's first division club PTT Ankara signed him . At this club he quickly won a regular place and counted the following four seasons to the most important players on his team.
In the summer of 1970 Mesçi moved within the 1st Lig to city rivals MKE Ankaragücü . At this club, too, he quickly rose to become a regular player and then a service provider. In the 1971/72 season he finished the league with his team in 5th place in the table and achieved the best first division placement for eight years. In addition, he and his team reached the final of the Turkish Cup for the first time in the club's history . In the final, they prevailed after two games against Altay Izmir and achieved the first title win in this competition. Mesçi was one of the outstanding players of his team this season and also made it to the Turkish national team. In the next season, the 1972/73 season , Mesçi's team surpassed the previous year's performance, reached 4th place in the table and thus repeated the best first division placement in the club's history. In the Turkish Cup the final was reached again, but in this the title defense against the final opponent Galatasaray Istanbul was missed.
For the 1973/74 season , Ankaragücü tried to commit striker Ali Osman Renklibay from league rivals Adanaspor . After long transfer negotiations, Renklibay was signed. In addition to a transfer fee of 100,000 Turkish Lira , Ankaragücü also gave Mesçi to Adanaspor as a transfer fee . Mesçi left Ankaragücü in the summer of 1973 and instead hired Adanaspor. Here he quickly made it into the regular formation. In his second season for Adanaspor he reached 4th place in the table with his team, achieved 4th place in the table, the best first division placement of the club to date and thus also secured the first participation in the UEFA Cup . The next season, the 1975/76 season , his club repeated the previous year's success with 4th place in the table. In the 1975/76 season, Mesçi lost his regular place, but was still often used.
In the summer of 1976 Mesçi returned to his previous club Ankaragücü. After Ankaragücü missed relegation in the 1st Lig at the end of the 1977/78 season , Mesçi ended his career in the summer of 1978.
National team
Mesçi, who had not previously played for any youth national team in Turkey, was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in April 1972 by national coach Coşkun Özarı as part of a test match against the Bulgarian national team and made his international debut in this encounter.
In 1974, Mesçi was nominated by the Turkish national coach Özarı in the Turkish national team for the 1974 ECO Cups . Mesçi played a game during this tournament and won the tournament with his team.
Although he was well over 21 years old, he completed two missions for the Turkish U-21 national team in 1974 .
He made a total of eleven senior international matches and scored one goal.
Coaching career
Immediately after his playing career, he took over the second division Sivasspor as head coach and switched to coaching. He looked after this club for a season. In the summer of 1980 he attended a trainer seminar and got his trainer diploma there.
