Tuncay Mesçi rarely also Tuncay Mesci (born January 1, 1947 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player . He was an important member of that team. the first Anatolian team to win the Turkish championship. Mesçi was thus two seasons with the great Trabzonspor team better known as Karadeniz Fırtınası and dominated Turkish football for the next decade. His brother Köksal Mesçi , who was two years older than him, was also a professional footballer and, like Tuncay, became a Turkish national player .
Career
society
The beginnings of Mesçi's football career are undocumented. So he played in the years 1970 and 1971 in the youth department of the first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara . He started playing professional football when he moved to the capital city club MKE Ankaragücü for the 1971/72 season , following his older brother, who had already moved to this club in the summer of 1970. Unlike his brother, Tuncay was more of a reservist at Ankaragücü and had two league games and one cup game by the end of the season. With his team, he finished the league in 5th place in the table and achieved the best first division placement for eight years. In addition, his team reached the final of the Turkish Cup for the first time in the club's history . In the final they prevailed after two games against Altay Izmir and achieved the first title win in this competition. After just one season at Ankaragücü, Mesçi moved within the 1st Lig to the South Anatolian representative Mersin İdman Yurdu . Here he immediately succeeded in gaining a regular place. So he completed 23 league games by the end of the season.
For the 1974-75 season, succeeded Trabzonspor as the first club from the northern Turkish port city of Trabzon , the hometown Mesçis to rise in the 1. Lig. This club had been founded seven years earlier through the merger of several local clubs and had the intention to represent the city of Trabzon in the 1st Lig with local talent. In the summer of 1974 Trabzonspor tried to get Mesçis. This accepted the offer and moved to his hometown. Despite his youth, he found a regular place in the team. The first season in the top Turkish league was rather mixed for Mesçi and he completed 15 league games. His team occupies ninth place in the table. In the second first division season they reached the championship completely surprisingly. Up to this season, the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul decided the championship of the Süper Lig among themselves. With Eskişehirspor , another Anatolian club narrowly missed the championship three times, but the ban remained. It was only solved with Trabzonspor's championship. The team also won the President's Cup and the Prime Minister's Cup this season . Mesçi played almost all of his team's competitive games and also made it into the Turkish national team. He was two seasons with the great Trabzonspor team better known as Karadeniz Fırtınası and dominated Turkish football for the next decade.
After this historic championship, the Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş and Galatasaray tried to get Mesçi. Finally he switched to Beşiktaş. At this club, he quickly made it into the regular formation and won the Prime Minister's Cup with the team at the end of the season. At the end of October 1977, Mesçi suffered an injury and was out for a few weeks. He then experienced some controversy with head coach Miloš Milutinović and then missed team training for a long time. Although he returned to his team during the winter break, he did not play a competitive game until the end of the season.
At the end of the 1977/78 season he was put on the sales list at Beşiktaş. In August 1978 he moved to Orduspor within the league . At this club he stayed for an indefinite period of time without completing a competitive game. Mesçi's further career is not further documented.
National team
Mesçi began his national team career in 1970 with a use for the Turkish U-18 national team. By the summer of 1971, he completed five more assignments for this national team.
Mesçi was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in February 1976 by national coach Coşkun Özarı as part of a test match against the Iranian national team , and made his international debut in this encounter.
