Kövegy is a Hungarian community in the county Makó in Csongrád-Csanád .
Geographical location
Kövegy is a good ten kilometers east of the city of Makó and a few kilometers from the border with Romania . Neighboring communities are Csanádpalota and Nagylak .
history
The place was mentioned in the 18th century under the names Kövek , Küvegh and then Kövegy. From the middle of the 19th century, the people in the village lived mainly from growing tobacco . In 1882 the place got the status of a municipality, in 1895 that of a large municipality. From 1973 to 1990 there was a joint administration with the neighboring town of Csanádpalota, from 1990 Kövegy has an independent administration again.

traffic
Road 4434 runs through Kövegy, and the M43 motorway to the south of the municipality leads to Romania. The nearest train station is three kilometers northeast in Csanádpalota and is connected to the railway line from Újszeged to Békéscsaba .
