geography
course
The Künabach arises between the Todtnau village of Herrenschwand and the Herrenschwander Kopf ( 1152.3 m above sea level ) in the south on the edge of the forest near Ehrsberger Straße. On its first kilometer run, it curves northwards to the edge of the Todtnau village of Herrenschwand, and then continues to flow southwards from the soon-to-be-wooded Hell to the west. From here it is the municipality boundary between Fröhnd in the north and Häg-Ehrsberg in the south. It passes Hinterstadel on the left slope, Hinterholz on the right slope and then enters a longer piece of forest again, rather it turns southwest for the last good kilometer of its run near Stutz, which is on the right on the plateau. Here, for the last 250 meters, the marking of the town of Zell im Wiesental replaces that of the municipality of Häg-Ehrsberg as the left neighbor, the brook crosses under the federal highway 317 and then flows from the left and northeast into the east loop here on its southern course to the Rhine Meadow .
Catchment area
The Künabach drains an area of around 10.4 km² in size, which extends west from the western tip of the Bei Dreieckigen Stein elevation to approximately the confluence in the far west for around 6.0 km. Its width, which varies little across it, reaches its maximum of about 2.7 km across backwood.
The watershed runs from the mouth first northeast through Stutz to the Holzer Kreuz and then eastwards over the Schneckenkopf ( 996.5 m above sea level ) and the Gescheidkopf ( 1064.3 m above sea level ) to the Hochgescheid ( 1205.2 m above sea level). NN ); on this section the upper meadow- tributary Schleifenbach competes in the north . Here, at the highest point of its catchment area, it turns to the southeast and runs just northeast of Herrenschwand to the easternmost point of the catchment area in the west of Beim Dreieckigen Stein (on the summit a little outside: 1191.5 m above sea level ); on the other side the Weißenbach also drains over the Prägbach to the meadow. The subsequent long southern watershed against the Angenbach runs over the peaks of Herrenschwander Kopf ( 1152.3 m above sea level ) and Wannenkopf ( 1129.3 m above sea level ). Finally, a catchment area of an insignificant meadow tributary occurs between those of Künabach and Angenbach.
Roughly half of the catchment area is forested, mostly on and around the greater heights and along the streams. In between there are clearing islands around Herrenschwand, Hinterstadel, Vorderholz and Stutz and a large unpopulated area between Ehrsberg in the south and the left valley slope on the lower reaches.
