Kai Løvring with real name Kai Aage Knudsen (born February 9, 1931 in Odense on Fyn , † November 15, 2002 in Herlev , Sjælland ) was a Danish comedian , actor and ventriloquist . He was best known for his role as Eskild from Svendborg and his appearances in the Danish revue Nykøbing F. Revyen .

Life

Kai Løvring began his career as a five-year-old boy, at that time still under his real name Kai Aage Knudsen , when he won an amateur competition with a harmonica in the former Christiansminde Badehotel in Svendborg with the song "Lillemor, jeg har skuffet dig så tit".

After finishing school, Løvring completed an apprenticeship as an electrician . In his spare time, as a 19-year-old, he took part in various auditions and amateur competitions for musicians and actors and gave small performances. He has also appeared in some performances at local revues in meetinghouses and in the Fyns Tivoli amusement park on the island of Funen. He usually performed his performances with self-created variety numbers, texts, jokes and parodies. Løvring still failed an entrance examination at the Odense Theater and never completed an acting training.

In 1956 he got his very first professional engagement at Københavnerkroen and performed as an entertainer in Rosenhaven and Dyrehavsbakken in Copenhagen together with Cleo Jensen ( Ellen Sofie Jensen ) and John Martinus, among others . He also appeared from 1972 on the regional broadcaster TV 2 / Lorry with Volmer-Sørensen at Nykøbing F. Revyen and then took part in these revues for several seasons. From 1976 he got a permanent engagement at the Cirkusrevyen , where he had an appearance with Otto Leisner and, among other things, appeared as the gossip journalist Gyldenspjæt ( Ib Boye ) from the Billed-Bladet . From 1980 he continued his engagement in the Cirkusrevyen in Dyrehavsbakken in a revue by Volmer-Sørensen and in 1983 he parodied his compatriot, the Danish folk singer Ove Bager from Lundeborg .

Kaj Løvring also showed great talent as a comedian , parodist and ventriloquist . Most of all, he became known through several television programs in Denmark. He also gained greater fame primarily through his appearances in the role of "Eskild Fra Svendborg" a character from the island of Funen in a play from 1960 by the Danish screenwriter and director Sejr Volmer-Sørensen , who hired Løvring for it. Volmer-Sørensen also gave him his first role as an actor on Amager Scenen . There she played in several comedies, farces and musicals such as Sovekammerfarce , The Sound of Music , Annie and in Some Like It Hot . In addition to many other appearances in the Amager Scenen, he was also active at Aveny Teatret and ABC Teatret . At ABC Teatret he played in the Farc Katten op at stege in 1987 . In 1987 he was awarded the Theater Cup for his achievements . At Aveny Teatret he played the role of bankrupt father in " Entertaineren " in 1991 and in 1998 he was Menneske Mortensen in the musical piece by " Livsens Ondskab " in Amager Scenen.

In the 1990s he also took part in a number of the Rottefælde revues in Svendborg. He made his debut in 1973 in the film "Revykøbing kalder" and had his roles in, among others, " Brand-Børge rykker ud ", " Walter og Carlo - op på fars hat ", " Manden der ville være skyldig ", " Krummerne ", " Roser og persille "," Carmen og Babyface "and" Motello ". He made his television debut in 1972 in the Otto Leisner show as a ventriloquist parodist. Later from 1988 he was to be seen as a presenter and host in a television show on TV 2 and was involved as an actor in the television series Gæt og Grimasser, which is popular in Denmark .

He also played in the television series Kirsebærhaven (based on the template Der Kirschgarten ) and in 2001 in Der serbische Däne ( Den serbiske dansker ).

In the last year of his life, in 2001, Kai Løvring was still performing at pensioners' associations and nursing homes.

Kaj Løvring had five daughters from his long marriage to Vera Løvring . He was buried in Rødovre Kirkegård (Rødovre Cemetery) in Rødovre .
