Kaili Sirge (born July 23, 1983 in Tamsalu ) is an Estonian cross-country skier .

life and career

Sirge won her first national championship title in 2003 in a pursuit competition. She was able to repeat this triumph a year later. In 2004 she also won over 30 kilometers in classic and relay. At the beginning of the 2004/05 season, she started in the cross-country skiing world cup for the first time . However, she mostly only placed in the back field. In the sprint competitions, she mostly just failed to qualify for the finals. Nevertheless she was nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf . There she took 48th place in the sprint, 57th place over 10 kilometers of freestyle and 13th place in the relay. In the 2005/06 season Sirge improved especially in the sprint competitions and several times just missed the jump into the finals. She qualified for the 2006 Olympic Games in Pragelato, Italy . There she finished 47th in the sprint and 15th in the team sprint with Piret Pormeister .

In January 2007 Sirge achieved her greatest success to date. At the Universiade in Pragelato, she sprinted the bronze medal behind Justyna Kowalczyk and Jelena Kolomina . Over 5 kilometers of freestyle, she took tenth place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 in Sapporo , Japan , she failed as 41st but again in qualifying in the sprint competition. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season , she also just missed the finals as 31st in Kuusamo . During the Tour de Ski 2007/2008, however, she managed to qualify for a World Cup sprint for the first time in the sprint competition in Prague . However, she did not finish the Tour de Ski and could not win any World Cup points for her 27th place. She only succeeded in doing this one season later in the sprint competition in Düsseldorf . On the street circuit, she qualified 14th for the finals, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals and finished 26th. After Kristina Šmigun's temporary withdrawal in 2007, these were the first World Cup points that an Estonian runner could achieve.
