The Cayman Dollar or Cayman Dollar is the currency of the Cayman Islands . It has been issued by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) since a change in law in January 1997 . Since then, CIMA has replaced the Cayman Islands Currency Board , which was founded in 1971. The Cayman Dollar began to be used in May 1972. The ISO-4217 code is KYD .
history
The US dollar was used on the Cayman Islands until 1863 , then the silver dollar until 1876 . The pound sterling was also the official currency. For a good hundred years, between 1870 and 1972, the Jamaican currency was used as a means of payment. First the Jamaican pound and from 1969 the Jamaican dollar .
After the introduction of the Cayman dollar, the Jamaican dollar remained the official currency for a transitional period until August 31, 1972.
According to an agreement with the World Bank, the caiman dollar is subject to a fixed exchange rate of 1 caiman dollar equal to 1.227 US dollars , according to its own information, 1.2 US dollars. In exchange offices on the island, however, it is usually traded at a rate of 1: 1.25.
Bills and coins are currently in circulation in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 cents and 1, 5, 10, 25, 40, 50 and 100 dollars.
