The Jamaican dollar ( Jamaican dollar ) is the currency of Jamaica and managed by the Bank of Jamaica issued. 1 dollar is divided into 100 cents .

There are banknotes in denominations of 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 dollars, coins in denominations of 1, 10 and 25 cents as well as 1, 5, 10 and 20 dollars. The latter is very similar to the 1 euro coin .

Colloquially, the Jamaican dollar is also known as "Jay". This is particularly helpful for tourists, as the country's unofficial second currency is the US dollar and confusion can be ruled out.

history

On January 30, 1968, the House of Representatives decided to decimalize the currency and replace the Jamaican pound, equivalent to the pound sterling, with the Jamaican dollar. From September 8, 1969, the Jamaican dollar denominated banknotes and coins were issued.
