Kaire Mbuende

Kaire Munionganda Mbuende (born November 28, 1953 in Windhoek ) is a Namibian economic sociologist , politician and diplomat .

Life

Mbuende was born in Windhoek in 1953. His father Gabriel Mbuende was a school teacher; his grandfather Gotthard Mbuende was a member of the Herero Council under Hosea Kutako . In 1970 Mbuende became a member of the South West African People's Organization ( SWAPO ) and was forced into exile in 1974 - first to Zambia and Tanzania , and in the late 1970s to study in Sweden . Mbuende completed a BA (Hons) in economic history and sociology and a Ph.D. in economic sociology at Lund University and taught for the following years at Lund and Aarhus Universities .

In 1989 Dr. Mbuende member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia and was from 1990 to 1993 member of the National Assembly and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Water and Rural Development . In 1994 he became Executive Secretary of the South African Development Community (SADC) in Gaborone , Botswana , but left the post again in 1999, also because u. a. the South African government wanted his deposition.

In 2000 he was again a member of the National Assembly in Windhoek and from 2002 to 2004 Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs . In 2002, Mbuende hit the headlines for his reluctant criticism of Robert Mugabe for believing reports of political violence in Zimbabwe were exaggerated. In 2004 he was finally released from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with Hidipo Hamutenya . Mbuende has been Namibia's ambassador for Belgium and the European Union since December 2015 .

In 2006 Mbuende made another new political start when he was appointed Ambassador to the United Nations by President Hifikepunye Pohamba to succeed Martin Andjaba . At the end of 2010, however, he was again relieved of his political responsibility - not least because of criticism from the ranks of the SWAPO Youth League (SPYL).

Mbuende is married and has three children. In addition to his native Otjiherero , he speaks seven other languages ​​(Afrikaans, Danish, German, English, Oshiwambo, Swedish and Swahili).
