The Kaltenbach (also the Kalten) is a tributary of the Mangfall . Its upper course, called Jenbach , is fed by several source streams on the north side of the Wendelstein , the highest source is that of the Moosebnetgraben . The Kaltenbach is fed in its course by the Aubach and the Dettendorfer Kalte. The catchment area is 111.6 km². It is a second order body of water .

Before it flows into the Mangfall near Rosenheim , the river crosses a largely natural river landscape in many meanders between the districts of Westerndorf am Wasen , Pang , Aising, Aisingerwies and Oberwöhr ( Kaltenbachauen nature reserve, Kalten nature reserve ).
